38 editon Fireworks Festival Scheveningen is a spectacular event with two fireworks shows per night. Different countries compete in the summer for the Fireworks Trophy Scheveningen. The first fireworks are shot at 21.45 hours every evening. The second fireworks will then enter the sky around 22.30. The show can be seen from the entire boulevard and the beach. Around the Fireworks Festival there are all kinds of free activities and performances at de Pier, the boulevard and the Kurhaus square in Scheveningen. In 2017, the Fireworks Festival will take place on 11, 12, 18 and 19 August.

The location of the fireworks is from a floating pontoon which is approximately 275 metres from the Pier and 275 metres from the beach, at the Kurhaus hotel. Furthermore, judges consider the following criteria: diversity in color and shape, orginality, structure and sequence of the pieces. The final show will be announced via the loudspeakers on the promenade after the second show on the last day of the event, around 23.30.

In addition to the spectacular fireworks shows, this year’s entertainment is again on stage with musical performances, acts, dance groups and live performances of the crazy Pianos. The entertainment program starts at 21.00 and takes until 23.30 and takes place across the entire boulevard

Scheveningen has an extensive tradition when it comes to fireworks. In 1907 the first fireworks were reported. From 1947, fireworks were shot on every thursday for many years. It used to be different than now: ‘ mechanical fireworks’ were fired from the poles on the beach. The ‘bombs’ were shot from the beach as well. Nowadays, that is no longer possible. After a period of firing from the Scheveningse Pier, a floating pontoon has been used on recent years to fire the fireworks. This platform is towed to Scheveningen from Rottetdam’s port in advance.
